| The
Woodland Heights Wildlife Sanctuary is a protected wilderness
zone set aside as a place to explore and discover
the secrets of the natural world.
Plans are underway to
have the sanctuary officially
protected under a conservation
easement drafted by The Muskoka
Heritage Foundation and the management of Woodland Heights.
The
Wildlife Sanctuary will include a series of interpretive trails
that will be strategically located to allow hikers
a chance to explore and enjoy
scenic views, woodland trails,
wetlands, streams and mixed forest
habitats.
A
uniquely designed wildlife, viewing gazebo
constructed to blend into the
natural surroundings will allow
visitors an opportunity to view the
wildlife and enjoy the serenity of
the area. A specially designed tree
house (also known as a treezebo)
will incorporate a unique experience that will allow visitors the opportunity
to study and relax in an arboreal dwelling that compliments
the tree and the surrounding nature.
As an added feature
participants can also join our Woodland Heights Adopt-a -
Feeder program. This unique
program has been designed to
allow the adopter to make a
contribution towards the
construction of a bird feeder that
will be placed on the nature trail
within the sanctuary. As an
adopter you will receive a map to
your feeder, a nature picture and
your name engraved on the feeder
identifying you as the sponsor.
Wildlife
checklists pertaining to birds, animal tracks and
butterflies will help visitors keep
wildlife records of their
observations while enjoying the
sanctuary and the natural
surroundings of Woodland
Heights.
Our goal is to ensure
that the residents of Woodland
Heights take advantage and
support this unique sanctuary. |
